How The Low Carb Lifestyle Finally Worked

I've had so many email requests for the "H.O.W. Food Plan" that I used to have posted on this page -- I can't count them! I was asked to remove the HOW Food Plan from my site as per the request of a group outside of Overeaters Anonymous that now owns the HOW food plan. The HOW Diet was how I lost 35 pounds in 1995. What got me off the plan was that Overeaters Anonymous no longer supported the HOW Food Plan and our OA group pretty much fell apart after that. We were all on the plan and it was the focus and common thread that kept our weight loss and group going. Over time we all pretty much gained all our weight back, and more.

Like all recovering "carb addicts" I thought I could handle a little sugar and didn't understand the impact of high carbs like bread, pasta, rice and potatoes, which were on the HOW Food Plan. And when I'd try to go back to HOW I'd find for some reason I just couldn't get rid of the carb cravings. It was just a simple little change that I needed to succeed again.

Atkins Diet Craze Jump Started Us!

A few years ago during the Atkins Diet craze my husband came upon the answer for himself. I watched him lose the 20 pounds he needed to shed in a month, and stay within a five pound window for over 3 years! I finally became willing to do his plan. I was afraid to go through a big weight loss again and be discouraged when I put it all back on. In August 2005 I took one look at my birthday picture and that was it! I was now willing to try again. (It's funny how I can't trust the mirror. When I'm up close I think I look pretty good. It took a far away picture of reality to undo that delusion.) This diet seems to work best for me as it makes no room for high carb vegetables, grains and is so simple. It's been perfect for me because it's gotten all the carb cravings out of my system and gives me back choice and control. Here's what I've used to lose 50 pounds since last fall 2006 -- September 11th was my starting day. I'm still a bit away from my goal weight, but I'll keep you posted as to the long term as it happens.

I call it the "No Gray Areas Diet" because you can't cheat yourself and you WILL learn to be hungry! The best part is that when you've lost all your weight - you give yourself a 5 pound window. Go ahead and have those mashed potatoes with dinner. And when the scale, which becomes "god", goes up 3 pounds overnight ... well, you just go back to the No Gray Areas Diet and lose the weight again. I've watched hubby and my girlfriend do this for 1 - 3 years and it works! (see disclaimer below**).
